In a world marked by violence and conflict, human beings will do what it takes to survive. In many parts of the world, vulnerable people have no defense from war, persecution, and violence. Left with few choices, many will choose to flee with their families, seeking safety in a country with more stability or opportunity. When they flee persecution due to their race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, they become asylum seekers: those who abandon their homes and seek refugee status somewhere else.
These asylum seekers often face a perilous journey upon making their decision to flee. Often, the conditions that caused them to leave extend well beyond their homes, meaning their route will be filled with danger. In addition, asylum seekers may have to rely on shady characters or treacherous conditions in order to make their journey. This is all done without a guarantee they will be granted refugee status and the opportunity for a better life.
The International Catholic Migration Commission is working to end this perilous journey of asylum-seeking. From North America, to Europe, and the Middle East, we advocate for and protect asylum seekers and refugees and other forcibly displaced people throughout the world. However, we cannot achieve our goals without support. Visit our website and learn how you can help end this humanitarian crisis.
The International Catholic Migration Commission is a nonprofit organization that protects, serves, and advocates for displaced people throughout the world. We help refugees, asylum-seekers, victims of human trafficking, and migrants of all faiths, races, and ethnicities forge lives of safety and dignity.
With support from people like you, ICMC supports efforts including humanitarian aid, social development, protection for vulnerable migrants, refugee resettlement efforts, advocacy, and partnership with civic leaders. We seek a sustainable solution to dangerous migration and refugee crises.
